The Ukrainian Millennium Development Goals Project (MDGP) aims to support the process of elaborating, implementing and monitoring economic and social policies to contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Ukraine.

This result will be achieved through assisting the Ukrainian Government in enhancing the overall institutional capacity of the Ministry of Economy, a leading executive state authority responsible for realization of the national action plan of economic and social development and charged with implementation of MDGs in Ukraine.

WHAT IS OUR MISSION?

The mission works to ensure participatory development of effective economic strategy, planning and forecasting in Ukraine by integrating the UMDGs into the main country’s development frameworks, building partnership, supporting democratic governance, and facilitating public involvement in policy making processes at all levels.

WHAT ARE THE PRIORITY AREAS?

In order to insure sustainability of social and economic policies and provide support to the Government of Ukraine, the Project envisages activities in the following areas:

Strengthening capacity building for policy development with the aim to provide substantive support to the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine and develop recommendations for sharing best national and foreign experience with the Government as well as other stakeholders enabling them to elaborate sound, economic and social policies based on the principles of transparency accountability;

Improving strategic planning and forecasting system to enhance the quality of long-, medium-, and short-term strategic planning and forecasting documents by taking into consideration expert and public opinion and disseminating good practices in the field of growth-oriented economic policies;

Reinforcing MDGs policy analysis and monitoring to support the Government in achieving the MDG targets and indicators into strategic planning and forecasting system at national and regional levels, develop UMDGs monitoring system and prepare Annual MDGs Monitoring Reports, develop localization methodology through piloting MDGs localization process in regions of Ukraine;

Raising public awareness of the MDGs in Ukraine, which involves conducting seminars, road shows, press clubs and other advocacy activities related to the UMDGs with active participation of mass media and general public in the open discussion of the UMDGs agenda.

HOW ARE WE CARRYING OUT OUR MISSION?

Follow up Project activities in each priority area are focused on the two major components:

1) In-depth Analysis of Economic and Social Policy and Methodological Recommendations to the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine and other national stakeholders to improve the quality of strategic planning and forecasting documents;

2) Public Debates, Advocacy Tours and Road Shows strengthening cooperation between public agents and civil society organisations to ensure transparent and inclusive policy making in the field of sustainable economic and social development in line with the UMDGs.
