It has been the second meeting in a series of public discussion events attracting Ukrainian and international experts in economic policy. They are aimed at discussing the draft paper detailing conceptual approaches within a joint action plan for Ukraine to overcome the crisis. The partners in this initiative include Scientific and Research Economical Institute, the Rada of Competitiveness of Ukraine and the "Mirror of the Week" weekly newspaper.
During the second meeting, entitled "Crisis as an opportunity for restructuring the real sector of economy" its participants discussed the following issues: Which structure of economy of Ukraine will be equitable to its national interests; What are the definition criteria of the strategic importance of industrial sectors and agro-industrial complex of Ukraine;
On which basis is it necessary to develop the domestic market: merchandise imports or import of technologies.
In addition the meeting participants shared their views on what sources can be used for further development of the real sector of economy and what mechanisms of improvement of the national economy can be used during the crisis.
Special attention was paid to progressive and negative changes in the structure of national economy since 2001; issues concerning the real model of economy; the most important strategic industrial sectors; and overall political situation in Ukraine.
As Ukraine's first President Leonid Kravchuk said, the model of national economy and model of power were closely-interconnected things. "Profound changes in economy require political stability - so it's meaningless to expect any real changes without the stable environment enabling the change," he added.
The event attracted over 30 representatives from state institutions and agencies and various economic think-tanks.
The key speakers included Leonid Kravchuk, Anatoliy Maksyuta, first deputy Economy Minister, Ihor Mantsurov, Director of Scientific and Research Economical Institute, Yuriy Poluneev, Chairman of the Competitiveness Council, Viktor Lisytskiy, member of the Council of Entrepreneurs, Viktor Panteleenko, deputy Economy Minister, Oleksandr Sugoniako, Chairman of National Banking Association, Igor Burakovsky and other leading economists.
